A Bears Guide to Worcester

If you’re gay, a Bear, and looking for something different to do; or you are on your way up I-290 or the Mass Pike, here are some spots in Worcester you might want to check out.

Hungry?

We have one restaurant in the city that is gay owned and operated. Its 86 Winter and oddly enough its located on 86 Winter street. It’s a little upscale and dinner for two will run you in the $50 range. But they have great food and a nice atmosphere. Menu items to try: The Stuffed mushrooms with the spicy sausage is a must for an appetizer. Believe the menu when it says spicy as they have a kick. For your entrée you either have to try the Meat Loaf or the Baked Macaroni & Cheese. If you’re lucky you’ll go on a night when they have their Mac & Cheese and Meat Loaf together special.

Looking to Dance?

Down the street from 86 Winter St. on Water Street is Blu (formerly “Rage”). Billing itself as an “ultralounge” the crowd tends to be younger but they have great music and there are some Bears and woofy men to be found.

Looking for a Bar to have a drink?

About two blocks away from 86 Winter, and 4 blocks from Blu, is the MB Lounge. The MB (Male Box) Lounge is located on Grafton Street and is a local’s hang out. It’s affectionately called the gay Cheers, as everybody knows your name. You’ll find a mix of Bears, leather, yuppies, sports fans and others here. There are 5 TVs around the bar and they play music videos or Red Sox games. Every Sunday night is Piano Night and those who love show tunes can come and sing along. The MB is open seven days a week from 3pm ’till 2am, usually lots of easy parking across the street that is free after 5pm & weekends.
